Old Jaffa

On the Wishing Bridge

It took me a while to find out that ‘Old Jaffa’ isn’t only about Arabic restaurants and the clock tower. There is so much more to discover, you definitely need a whole day! My favorite area is the Fleamarket district in the heart of Jaffa with all its restaurants, cafes, boutiques, street art and so much more. The best time to be here is on a Friday noon when everything is alive - you’ll find little stands with local art and handcrafted jewelry, live music and happy people dancing on the streets.

Here are my highlights for a city stroll through Jaffa:

  1. Start off at Vista Coffee on the promenade right at the entrance to Old Jaffa, close to the old harbor - this is one of my favorite spots for a morning coffee as much as for a sunset coffee. Without any doubts, there is no better location than this.

  2. Walk through the little stoned streets up to the Wishing Bridge from where you’ll see one of the best views of Tel Aviv. Make sure to check out all the little art galleries on your way!

  3. Continue to the Fleamarket district, passing Jaffa’s Clock Tower and grab a delicious, fresh fruit shake at BamBoo on the corner of Rabbi Yohanan & Rabbi Pinkhas Street. They have many raw & vegan snack-options and definitely make one of the best fruit shakes in town.

  4. Make sure to pass Albi, a Greek restaurant with loud local music (Musika Mizrahit) where people are cheering and dancing on the street, especially on Fridays during lunch time - it’s a must see!

  5. Take a break at Cafe Puaa in one of the most colorful streets in the area- see blog post.

  6. Go shopping at Love Me Two Times, a cute little vintage store, where sometimes you’ll find true jewels for reasonable prices.

  7. Even if you don’t have that much space in your suitcase, you should definitely have a look in to Yoseph Bahazer on Pinkhas Ben Yair Street, a lovely store for home decor & furniture - I kind of wanna live in it.

  8. Have a bagel at Aboulafya, the oldest bakery in town. Don’t get turned-off by their reviews, don’t expect friendly staff, just have the bagel, it’s absolutely worth it, trust me!

  9. Enjoy the evening in style at The Chapel - a bar at the luxury The Jaffa Hotel. It actually used to be a chapel but don’t worry, it has been desanctified and is now THE most unique and beautiful bar in Tel Aviv. On weekends it even turns into a club. Of course the prices are a bit higher than usual, BUT the location is absolutely worth it! Try their Pink Gin cocktail, it’s delicious and comes in a huuuge glass.
