Ruby
Opened in December 2019, Ruby is one of the latest self-checkin boutique hotels in Tel Aviv. With only 18 rooms in a 100 year-old restored building, it is one of the most charming accommodations I’ve seen in a while. Located in the heart of Neve Tzedek, many sights such as Old Jaffa, the Carmel Market and Levinsky Market are easily reachable within walking distance. Ruby is the bigger brother of Oliver, another cute little boutique hotel with the same concept, located close by.
The hotel’s interior is entirely designed by architect Iris Berger, who puts emphasis on sustainability by reusing materials eco-friendly, climate-friendly, and energy-efficiently, without fearing simplicity. “Leaving something imperfect means making it interesting. It gives us the feeling that there is room for growth.” The furniture is all vintage, some of the pieces are unique collector’s items, which have been carefully refurbished. Parts of the building are preserved and processed, such as the ornaments on the ceiling, the windows, and pieces of the walls. The floor in the entrance area and the staircase railing are original too, which adds an authentic, industrial touch to the hall. You will find so much attention to every little detail, such as unique tea sets, vases and fresh, colorful flowers, which are delivered once a week by a florist. Besides, there are lots of cacti and other plants in every corner.
Ruby supports local Israeli artists by presenting their paintings on the walls throughout the hotel. There are four common areas with kitchens, free to use for all guests. Each kitchen provides Nepresso coffee machines, tea, milk and even free beer! In case you wish to buy your own food, you can store it in the big fridges. Guests can also have their morning coffee on the patio or in the cozy little garden.
Room fares vary between 600 to 1,000 NIS for couples, depending on the category and season. When you book last minute during off-season, you can even get room rates as low as 450 NIS, which is basically impossible in TLV! Some of the rooms have balconies and large bathrooms with rain showers. You’ll find a free bottle of water and healthy little snacks on each night table. You have the option to add breakfast at Herzl 16 for 55 NIS.
I highly recommend staying at this hotel if you’re a fan of minimalist design and prefer unique, peaceful and cozy lodging over a stay in an average hotel chain. Keep in mind that Ruby has no reception - you’ll receive a code to enter the property, which is very convenient and spares you the entire handling upon arrival when checking in. Use code telavivstyle to get 10% off your booking via Ruby’s website upon check out! Trust me, you won’t regret staying here :)
